Blue Boy, four years old

Blue Boy, four years old

Meet Blue Boy. He was four years old when our baby boy was born  and he liked that baby. One day when I was sweeping and walked out the front door, Blue Boy was on my shoulder and before I knew it, he had joined a bunch of birds that  flew over and was gone. I was in a panic trying to see where they went, but he was gone. I walked in the pasture until dark, calling him and looking in every bush and tree. The next day I went out again with my guitar, thinking he would hear it and come to me. I couldn’t give up, I was sick, my heart was broken. I put an ad in the paper for my ‘lost bird’ and Dan said it was useless, no way would anyone find him. The third day it turned cold and wet and I was losing hope. On the fourth day, Margaret Whitten called me and said she thought they might have found Blue Boy. Morris had been out working livestock and this little bird came and got on his shoulder and would not leave so he put him in the pickup until he finished work and headed home. They lived four miles from our house and I cried all the way out there, praying for a miracle. IT WAS HIM! The feathers on his head were gone there was a cactus thorn through his foot but it was him. He got close to my ear coming home and kept saying “Blue Boy Sweet Baby Bird”. He lived to be nine years old and was one of the finest little pets we ever had. I know this is supposed to be a Happy Birthday blog for my son today but when I saw the picture, I remembered what a wonderful and blessed life we lived. Sweet little bird and that sweet and precious little baby boy. Happy Birthday!

Some Sweet Pictures

I pray for Nancy every day, she is beautiful and in good health but suffers from dementia. We have such a sweet history together. Our babies were our greatest bond. We both became great-grand-mothers recently so there are still many wonderful things I wish we could share.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
– Philippians 4:6-7

Gavriella, I call her Ella Joy.

Ella Joy is three months old now. This is one of my favorite pictures. She lives in Uganda, half a world away but ZZ and John send pictures and videos every day. It is almost like being there! She will be meeting her Texas grandparents for the first time in a few more weeks. She is the first baby in our family since ZZ was born 26 years ago. This makes my heart happy~

Tricia with Molly

Everyone loves Tricia! She is a great part of our lives, she is the lover of the pets, she plays her music at all of our big dinners and is always available when we need someone there to take care of things. What a sweet blessing~

This blog would not be complete without pictures of Kobi and Molly. They reigned over their house for 14 years and lit up every single day. I will always remember them driving off in the car, two little white heads bobbing up and down, ready to go back home. Thank you Lord for these treasures~

This is one of the many tea parties at our house. Spook was the number one dog, she lived to be just short of 19 years. ZZ was the most fun I can ever remember. What a blessing to be a grammy.

Bible lesson

Bible lesson

At three months old Ella Joy is listening to her papa read a Bible verse. She really seems interested. This is a precious picture.

“But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

Another re-run from four years ago. I was packing my bags, getting ready to go half way around the world to spend Christmas with ZZ in Kenya. I was beyond happy! I never get tired of Christmas stories and remembering exciting times.

I bought this tree at Hobby Lobby and it was easy to put up and decorate, I was even able to get it back in the big box . I never imagined I could settle for an artificial tree, I liked it though

Our family has almost always been able to be together for Christmas, it goes  on for  a week or more, some of it here and some in San Angelo. Our times together were always a special blessing for me and Dan. There was a lot of visiting, eating great meals and music. This picture is one someone took just as we were leaving for church one morning and I didn’t see it until everyone had gone home and later I had the film developed. Most of our pictures were on video and I enjoyed watching those and reliving the fun of our Christmas but this is the one I liked the most. ZZ stayed with us another week or two after the others went home, that is when we got down to serious fun. Then I would load her up with Little Sweet, Spook and Blue Boy and we would head out for New Mexico.

Thank you Lord Jesus for being in our lives. Merry Christmas to all~

Creamy Cilantro Soup

this is a delicious and satisfying meal~and you don’t feel like you ‘ate the cow’~

Soup is good any day of the year, it is a light but filling. This one is Debbie’s wonderful Creamy Cilantro Soup. It is a good summer time meal, she sometimes brings soup for  dinner when they come for church on Sundays. I make the dessert, Tricia brings the cantaloupe  and Debbie bakes the corn bread just before we eat.  A lovely meal with our family. Sometimes there are four of us, sometimes seven or eight, but always a great meal and time to get together once a week. Most of the meals I have been posting on my blog are our Sunday dinners. We treasure these times together~

                    Cream of Cilantro Soup
                         Debbie McWhorter
1 bunch fresh cilantro
1 32 oz packaged fat free chicken broth-divided
2 T butter
2 T flour
8 oz package fat free cream cheese
8 oz container light sour cream (save some for garnish)
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp red pepper
1/4 tsp ground cumin
Remove stems from cilantro and chop
Process cilantro and 1 cup chicken broth
in food processor or blender
Melt butter in large pot over medium heat,
stir in flour. Gradually add remaining 3 cups
broth, stiring constantly until it is smooth. Boil
for one minute. Stir in cilantro mixture, cream
cheese and next 5 ingredients. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Garnish with fresh cilantro sprigs and a spoon full of sour cream.

Are you still there? I need to tell you my story about the soup. I have a new blender and filled it pretty full  with the soup, put the lid on TIGHT, turned on the pulse switch and it blew the lid off, blew soup all over the kitchen, under the upper cabinets, the cabinet doors were open so it even filled up the bowl on the shelf where I keep my vitamins. There was just enough soup left to take a picture for the blog. Don’t you do this!   I sat down and enjoyed the soup and left the mess for ‘Rita’ to clean up later~
